Cool Points Club launches Cool Gram to offset your Instagram’s carbon

Cool Points Club co-founders: Leanne Bats & Jussara Bierman

Cool Points Club (Atto 2021) is reimagining climate action for the ownership era.

Not enough is being done to combat climate change, but when so few are making it ‘cool’ to act, it's not rocket science as to why... climate action is in need of a rebrand, so that's exactly what they’re doing - using art and blockchain to cook up entirely new ways for brands and people to cool our planet and gain assets as they go.

Cool Points Club recently launched Cool Gram to offset your Instagram account’s carbon emissions. Learn more about their innovative product launch below.

What is Cool Points Club?

Cool Points Club (CPC) is all about making things cooler by designing new ways for people and brands to be climate active. Our goal is to take everyday activities and use them as opportunities to fund emerging carbon removal technologies that cool our planet. This is climate action, but not as you know it.

How did the idea for Cool Gram come about?

CPC’s digital footprint has been carbon-negative from the get-go, so we wanted to give opportunities for other brands (and individuals) to take their own first step in making their digital footprint a little bit cooler. Enter Cool Gram.

How can startups make their IG account carbon neutral? How much does it cost?

Cool Gram offers a subscription (USD $5 per month) that makes your Instagram account ‘Officially Cool’. We remove enough carbon to make any ‘Gram negative, even if you scroll all day, everyday. The less you use it, the cooler it becomes.

Tell us about the guerrilla marketing campaigns you've done with Shit You Should Care About and the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge…

We’ve never been shy about coming forward! Once we launched our Cool Gram ecommerce website, we targeted a large number of climate-friendly social media profiles about “cooling their ‘gram” (at our own cost, for an initial period of time). @shityoushouldcareabout (3.4M followers) was one of the first high profile accounts to take us up on this offer, and we're now trying to capture the attention of the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge. After not getting a response from 'sliding into their DMs', we’ve gone and cooled their IG anyway… watch this space!

Why should tech startup founders care about climate action?

Our climate has a limit. A carbon budget if you will. We have just 280 gigatonnes of CO₂ left, before we hit irreversible tipping points. If we want to make the next century worth reaching we have to both radically reduce the new emissions we put into the air, and remove carbon already in the atmosphere. There's no such thing as a thriving business without a thriving planet!

What other carbon offsetting activities do you think we'll see in the future?

CPC has a number of cool initiatives in the pipeline. We are looking to launch “Islands of Cool” in December (a digital world of unexpected environmental significance for our physical one — all Islands of Cool NFTs exist to fund real-world carbon removal and cool our planet), and hope to launch Cool Points in the middle of 2022 (the worlds first carbon-negative rewards – turning consumption into climate action. Each ‘Cool Point’ = 1KG of carbon removal rewarded as a digital collectible).
